Student access to 1098-T Tuition Statements Notice
Posted by Laina Costanza on 28 December 2017 10:04 AM

1098-T Tuition Statements Notice

Students:

Amridge University is excited to announce that beginning January 31, 2018, you will be able to access your 1098-T Tuition Statement online through the Amridge Self-Service portal (in addition to receiving your copy in the mail). In accordance with IRS reporting requirements, institutions must report either “payments received” (Box 1 of the 1098-T form) OR “amounts billed” (Box 2 of the 1098-T form).

For Tax Year 2017, Amridge University reported “amounts billed” (Box 2).  Please note that the amount shown in Box 2 for qualified tuition and related expenses billed during the calendar year may represent an amount that is different from the amount you actually paid.  According to section 25A of the Internal Revenue Code, you may only take a tuition and fee deduction or claim an education tax credit with respect to what you actually paid.

In preparing your tax returns please make sure that you only use the amount you actually paid.  You may view your student account online to determine amounts paid towards eligible tuition and related expenses during the calendar year.

The IRS 1098-T form is provided as an informational document and does not need to be attached to your tax return.  Please consult your tax advisor for further tax questions or advice. Qualified tuition and related expenses include tuition, comprehensive fees, and course fees.  When determining amounts paid towards eligible tuition and related expenses, you should include payments made using personal funds, student loan funds (less any refunds received), or alternative loans (less any refunds received). The following are considered scholarships or grants and may not be included as payments made towards eligible tuition: payments received from governmental entities, Pell Grants, SEOG grants, institutional scholarships, or donor-provided scholarships.

For questions regarding 1098-T statements, please contact Amridge's Financial Aid Department at 1.888.790.8080 Extension 3 or email financialaid@amridgeuniversity.edu.

Sincerely,

Amridge University
